Digital Security Trainers’ Practices and Observations

This study examines the issue of digital security training for human rights defenders from the trainer perspective, centring on trainers' personal experiences with a view to sharing and promoting best practices. This developed into a larger discussion of successful approaches, methodologies and the personal development stories of digital security trainers. The report examines influential factors in creating 'successful' trainings as perceived by trainers, as well as practices which could be deemed ineffective or even harmful given the high risks to which human rights defenders are already exposed.

This image and the others used on this site were created as part of a training exercise during the Security in Context study. Participants, who were human rights defenders and advocates, were asked to draw how they perceived the internet.
